S#arp Attitude UMASS Amherst's all female acapella group

Before last year, UMASS Amherst never had an all female acapella group. Over the past two and a half semester 2 girls have worked so hard to not only create a great acapella group, but more of a model for what women should stand for. Without realizing it these two ladies have started to transform the idea of feminism in music at a university. What started out as a 6 person group that would drop by open mics to get some stage time, has turned into a 13 person ensemble that is able to have their own showcases. The girls welcome all different type of women, for example there are 2 lesbians and 1 bisexual but they are all very talented and confident with who they are. This relates to our studies of women, gender, and sexuality because a lot of the time people don’t take women seriously in music, and they are fighting to break that stereotype. I joined the group this semester and I can honestly say that I have never felt more comfortable with my singing but also with who I am.
