Hip-Hop Feminism

“When it came to music, I have always had a problem listening to the condescending lyrics of hip-hop towards women, as well as the fact that it is made mandatory for women artists to have to always be sexy in their videos to even get attention. It is as if their talent is not apparent unless there is a massive display of skin.” This was the big thing I picked out of this article relating to music. It relates mostly to hip-hop feminism. A lot of the time, women struggle to be taken seriously. Especially when it comes to music and what society considers “normal” for women. There is a central image of women as a “sex icon” in music, and when other women do not want to be half naked while dancing in their videos, they may get less attention than those that do.
