Is Lady Gaga a feminist or not? She’s famous for saying that she’s a little bit of a feminist, and also known for saying “I hail men!” So which is it? This article explores the contradiction in Gaga’s art. One minute she’s dancing in a patriotic bikini in a music video, and the next she’s wearing a meat dress in reaction to America’s “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell Policy.” Gaga encourages women to be themselves, yet she calls herself “Lady Gaga,” which obviously isn’t her real name. It seems as if the “feminists” of today’s age are a little confused. It is great that pop-stars like Beyonce, Lady Gaga, and Katy Perry are so adamant about girl power, but the fact that they dance around in little clothing leaves girls today, a little confused. Some of this has to do with the fact that "sex sells" in the music industry, and pop-stars sometimes have little control over their image. However, some teenage girls believe that the way to be a "feminist" nowadays is to exploit their bodies. Celebrities like Lady Gaga are sending mixed messages, which unfortunately might be a symbol of what feminists of the future may be like.
